In the Classroom

  • From recruitment to graduation, your Veteran Success Advisor is with you to make sure that you are taken care of. If there is an issue with your benefits, a need to change a class, or just a general question, your Veteran Success Advisor is here to help. When it comes to course registration, we understand that you have responsibilities outside of school. For student veterans classified as a "special population", you are able to register early to ensure that you are able to get into the classes that you need.

  • Resumé assistance, interview preparation, and assistance in translating military experience in preparation for a civilian job search. Access to on campus career fairs and recruiting events throughout the year.

  • The Accessibility Resources Center ("ARC") provides comprehensive services and support that serve to promote educational equity and ensure that students are able to participate in the opportunities available at the University of New Haven. If you find that you need a quiet place to take an exam, extra time to complete your assignments, or assistance with notetaking, ARC may be able to help.

Outside the Classroom

  • Located in Sheffield Hall (ID required)

    Designated lounge/study space for military/veteran students. Access to computers and free printing, along with a place to connect with other service members.

    Please email veteranservices@newhaven.edu to obtain access to the lounge.

  • Throughout the academic year, the Military & Veteran Affairs Team holds various events to celebrate the accomplishments of our Student Veteran Community at the University of New Haven. Some examples of past events are:

    • Salute to Service Banquet
    • Veterans Day Ceremony
    • 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
    • Halloween Party
    • VetsGiving
    • First Friday Gatherings

  • Army ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) is one of the best leadership courses in the country and is part of your college curriculum.

    Military & Veterans Affairs also works in conjunction with ROTC to hold the Joint Forces Leadership Council gatherings where ROTC cadets & current Student Veterans at the University have open panel discussions to share experiences and helpful wisdom with each other. Previous panels discussed leadership traits, transitioning into higher education, study tips, and what to expect as a young commissioned officer.

  • The University of New Haven is a member of the athletically and academically prestigious Northeast-10 (NE-10) Conference and NCAA Division II. The University of New Haven offers 17 varsity sports and have won conference, regional, and even national championships, and our student-athletes excel in the classroom and community.

    Student Veterans and the VA Work Study team have also represented the Artillery Crew at our Home Football games, firing the cannon when our Chargers score! If you are interested in becoming a part of the Artillery Crew for a game, contact VeteranServices@newhaven.edu

    • The University of New Haven has more than 140 Recognized Student Organizations overseen by three student-run governing bodies.
    • Military Veterans of the University of New Haven (MVUNH):
      The mission and purpose of this organization is to create a community of veterans who will use their knowledge and experiences to educate the University community and advocate on behalf of Student-Veterans.
    • Military Service Engagement Club:
      This club serves to provide a space for individuals who are interested in serving, currently serving, are prior service, or are simply interested in the military. This space is intended to spark discussion and education about the military.
