"Paying College Athletes: A Movement Grows" The lead story in the Sunday edition featured
Allen Sack, member of UNH's sports management faculty, who was interviewed on reforming
college athletics. The issue of amateurism and compensating college athletes has been
recently highlighted by Northwestern, a class-action lawsuit by former UCLA star Ed
O'Bannon over the use of player images for commercial use, and an antitrust lawsuit
against the NCAA that challenges the very notion of amateurism in college sports.
The NCAA meets in August, and some sort of compensation for athletes could be approved.

UNH has scheduled its two commencement exercises for 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. May 18. The
ceremonies will be at the Toyota Presents Oakdale Theatre, 95 S. Turnpike Road, in
Wallingford. The featured speaker for the morning ceremony will be former Los Angeles
Times editor John S. Carroll; the speaker for the afternoon ceremony will be Gateway
Community College President Dorsey Kendrick. Both will receive honorary degrees, as
well.

Worldwide Attention" UNH computer security researchers have drawn global attention
over the past two weeks by revealing security vulnerabilities in two popular messaging
apps that together have more than 600 million users worldwide. The University of New
Haven Cyber Forensics Research & Education Group, led by assistant professor Ibrahim
"Abe" Baggili, revealed a vulnerability in the popular WhatsApp messaging software,
then just a few days later revealed multiple vulnerabilities in the popular Viber
chat app, a competitor to WhatsApp, demonstrating that not only is information uploaded
via the app not encrypted when sent to Viber’s servers, but it is stored on those
servers in that unencrypted state as well. This article was taken down by the publisher.
