Simon Hutchinson is a composer and designer of compact interactive experiences.
A voracious scholar of all aspects of music, his work synthesizes disparate ideas–European concert traditions and creative electronics; acoustic musical instruments and digital video games; East Asian folk and American jazz, rock and funk–and these combinations yield novel musical experiences, engaging with the relationships between society, technology, and the human experience.
Hutchinson holds a PhD in Composition with supporting coursework in Intermedia Music Technology from the University of Oregon, where he was named the Outstanding Graduate Scholar in Music. Hutchinson’s studies in cross-cultural composition were supported by the Sasakawa Young Leader’s Fellowship Fund (SYLFF), and his works are now performed across North America, Europe, and Asia.
