Shirley Wakin, Ph.D.
About Shirley
Shirley Wakin received her Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts. She joined the mathematics faculty at the University of New Haven in 1979 and became interested in Mathematics Education. In 1993, she was given a joint appointment as a Professor of Mathematics and Education. In 2000, she became Chair of the Education Department and successfully led the department through a State Department of Education accreditation. In retirement, Dr. Wakin has become somewhat of a professional chocolatier and she has rekindled her interest in playing bridge. She continues to follow her passion by teaching as an adjunct faculty at Fairfield University.
